FAQ's About Gas Lines
There is no room for error when working with natural gas piping. Whether it’s gas to a kitchen appliance, a gas grill, a pool heater or any other type of equipment, you need to know that it has been installed safely and properly. We install thousands of feet of gas piping every year. From small residential gas lines to large industrial mains, we can handle it.
What is a gas line?
A gas line is piping that conveys natural gas or propane from a supply source to an appliance.
How do you hook up a gas line?
- The means of connection depends on which material is being used. Gas lines can be plastic, stainless steel tubing, copper or steel pipe.
- The most common method is a threaded mechanical connection.
What pipes are used for gas?
- Gas lines can be plastic, stainless steel tubing, copper or steel pipe.
- Plastic pipes are most commonly used for service lines that are buried underground.
- Stainless steel pipe is most commonly known as corrugated stainless steel tubing or CSST. This is more commonly used in residential applications and is often referred to as flex pipe.
- Copper is more commonly used with propane for exterior piping.
- Steel pipe is often referred to as black iron pipe and was the most common type of gas piping for many years.
Can gas lines get clogged?
It is rare but yes they can. The most common is when an underground pipe develops a leak and water actually leaks into the pipe. The water can fill the pipe and not allow the gas to flow through.
