Is a pool heater worth it?
Using a pool heater will extend your swim season. If being able to swim earlier and later in the season is important to you or your family then, yes, it is worth it.
How can I heat my pool cheaply?
- The least expensive way to operate your pool heater is to only run it when you know you will be swimming. Simply, don't run your pool heater all the time. Most heaters will raise the temperature of the pool 1 or 2 degrees per hour. Therefore, if you want the pool to be 6 degrees warmer and your heater will raise the temperature 2 degrees per hour, turn the pool heater on at least 3 hours before you want to swim
- Solar covers are one alternative to a pool heater. However, they don't heat the pool very quickly and not at all if the sun is not out.

What size of heater do I need for my pool?
- Any size pool heater will work, the question is how fast do you want the pool to warm up.
- If you like to maintain your desired temperature all the time then a smaller heater around 200,000 BTU's will work. If you plan ahead and have plenty of time to heat the pool then the smaller heater works here as well. But if you don't plan ahead or need to heat your pool up quickly then look for something larger, between 300,000 and 400,000 BTU's.
Is heating a pool expensive?

How long do pool heaters last?
- How well you maintain your water chemistry has a huge affect on the life of a pool heater.
- A pool heater on a well maintained pool can last 10 to 20 years. Poorly maintained pool water can destroy a pool heater's heat exchanger and sensors in just a year or two.
Can a pool heater be repaired?
Yes. Like any appliance you need to decide if it is more cost affective to repair or replace. This will of course depend greatly on the age of the heater.
How much does it cost to repair a pool heater?
- Of course this depends on the problem but plan on spending $200 - $300 for minor issues.
- With larger issues, like heat exchanger failures, it may be more cost effective to replace the heater.
